Really good thriller books with a hint of romance? READ DETAILS!!?

The Last Apprentice series by Joseph Delaney. They are technically "young adult" books but I am in my 20s and have really enjoyed them. They are about a boy who is sent to live with the local Spook so he can learn how to be the next Spook and fight ghosts and witches and bogarts and things of that sort. These books are suspenseful and have some great bits of horror and when he meets Alice, and in some of the later books, there is a little "romance". the first one is called The Last Apprentice: Revenge of the Witch.
