Are teachers really "teachers"? And just how effective is the American school system?

Totally understand where you're coming from. I think one change should be adding more time to the school day. Teachers should be better trained before teaching in the clroom. Along with more training, they should have a much higher pay. I think there should still be some homework, but the homework should be more conceptual and thought-provoking.
