What does it say about society at large when articulate, well dressed men are instantly umed to be gay?

And why is it that the umption of ity carries further negative connotations? I am a reasonably intelligent straight man who likes nice clothes. Yet I am often mistaken for a gay man for this. I have no problem with being mistaken for a gay man, but it can't be a good reflection on the straight male population as a whole if being intelligent & well groomed is regarded as a bad thing.
